The Faith Craze is Undermining the Faith

I recently met this lovely young lady, a believer. She believed in “faith” so much that at one time she attempted to “send her money” to go buy what she needed because she was too lazy to go there (distance of less than 10m), it didn’t happen. Observing that and hearing her speak about many things got me concerned.

A lot of preachers are teaching about this kind of faith that makes life smooth, a faith that involves lightenings and movie like power effects. I’m a charismatic Spirit filled christian I believe in the miraculous but I don’t recognize some of the definitions of faith being taught in the church.

As christians we are supernatural but supernatural doesn’t mean spectacular everytime. Having the Creator inside of us is supernatural enough. I have seen youngsters being frustrated and leaving Christ because they couldn’t perform “the magic” being taught.

Notice how facebook is awash with these long prayers that require you to click LIKE and your life changes, really? Let’s not teach “faith” at the expense of character. God will not compromise His values just to bless us. Yes there is grace but grace is not a compromise!

In my short life I have learnt that God wants to bless me far more than I want to. He can only do that when i trust Him and trust involves obedience. God wants us to have faith in Him, not faith in faith. Faith is not a concept of cognitive psychology, it is a spiritual reality.

We are living in an era of so much “faith,” we have forgoten how to be patient. Patience however cannot be separated from faith because patience reveals trust. Central to christianity is that Christ is coming. If we are not patiently waiting for Him then we don’t have faith at all! If we expect things NOW everytime then we have weak faith.
